Gandhi's social movements were a combination of theories and practice. Both the movements, "Quit India" as well as "Satyagrah" had deep rooted philosophies. Satyagrah literally means "truth-embracement". Gandhi followed the belief, "hate the sin and not the sinner". Gandhi embraced Quit India and appealed to the Indian population to refrain from inflicting violence on anyone.
